Fuel System Water Separator - Check/Drain

Usage:

------ WARNING! ------

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide"for tools and supplies to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations.

(1) Lower grill assembly
(2) Drain valve
(3) Drain hose connector

  1. Open the lower grill assembly on the left-hand side of the machine. The fuel system water separator is mounted in this compartment.

  2. The drain hose from the water separator extends down through the rear bumper of the machine. Place a suitable container under the open end of the drain hose.

  3. Open drain valve (2) on the bottom of the water separator. Be careful that drain hose connector (3) remains attached to the drain valve. Allow the water and other contaminants to drain into the suitable container.

  4. After the water and other contaminants are drained, close the drain valve by hand pressure only. Properly dispose of the drained fluid.

  5. Close the lower grill assembly.
