D6T Track-Type Tractor Electronic Control Systems Caterpillar

Event Code List

Usage:

D6T XL DTD
Events alert the operator or the technician that an abnormal operating condition exists in a machine system.

The operator is alerted by an error message when an Event is activated. All the active Events are logged by the ECM. The active Events and the logged Events can be viewed with the Monitoring System or the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET).

Warning Levels

The ECM assigns one of three warning levels to an active Event code according to the severity of the condition. Each warning level requires a specific response from the operator. The warning levels and required operator response are listed below.

Warning Level 1

Warning level 1 alerts the operator that a machine system requires attention. The operator should check the involved system condition or perform maintenance on the involved system at the earliest possible time.

Warning Level 2

Warning level 2 requires changing the operation of the machine or performing a maintenance procedure. Failure to correct the problem may result in damaging the involved machine system components.

Warning Level 3

Warning level 3 requires an immediate safe shutdown of the machine. The problem that caused the Event will have to be corrected before machine operation can resume.

Indications and System Response

Instrument Cluster

The warning indicators on the instrument cluster will illuminate when an EID is activated for a particular system. If two warnings of a different level are active at the same time, the highest level warning will be displayed.

Refer to Table 1 for the response of the instrument cluster to the associated warning level.

Table 1
WARNING OPERATION
Warning Level  Warning Indications  Required Operator Action  Possible Result (1)
Red Action Indicator Action Alarm Sounds
OFF  OFF  No immediate action required. The digital display should communicate any response required.  No harmful or damaging effects.
Flash ON and OFF  OFF  Change machine operation or perform maintenance to the system.  Damage to system components.
Flash ON and OFF  Pulse ON and OFF  Immediately perform a safe engine shutdown.  Operator injury or severe damage to components.
(1) The result if no operator action is taken.

Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET)

When an abnormal system operating condition occurs, the status screen in Cat ET will indicate that there is an active Event.

Event codes are displayed in Cat ET in the following format:

EXXXX Description of the code

The "E" indicates that the code is an Event code. The "XXXX" is a numeric identifier. The numeric identifier is followed by a description of the code.

The active Event codes are listed in an ascending numerical order. The code with the lowest number is listed first. The active Event code is removed from the list when the condition is no longer present. You can view the logged Events and the active Events in Cat ET.

The logged Event codes are listed in chronological order. The most recent code is listed first.

A logged code is cleared from memory when one of the following conditions occur:

  • The service technician manually clears the code.

  • The code does not reoccur for 1000 hours.

  • A new code is logged and ten codes have already been logged in memory. In this case, the oldest logged code is cleared.

Note: Always clear the logged Event codes after investigating and correcting the problem which generated the code.

General Troubleshooting Guidelines

Perform the following steps to troubleshoot an Event:

  1. Obtain the following information from the operator:

    • The Event and the time of the Event

    • Determine the machine operating conditions at the time of the Event. Conditions such as engine rpm, machine load, or operating environment may be important.

    • Determine if there are any systems that were installed by the dealer or by the customer that could cause the Event.

  2. Verify that the Event is not due to normal machine operation. Verify that the Event is not due to an error in the operation of the machine.

  3. Attempt to reset the active Event to determine if the cause was due to a momentary condition.

  4. Check all fluid levels and all oil levels.

  5. Many active Events can be caused by or are related to active diagnostic codes. Always check for active diagnostic codes that are related to the condition of the Event. Troubleshoot and repair the cause of any diagnostic codes that are active when an Event is activated.

  6. Locate the EID code for the active Event that is listed in the following tables and follow the recommended actions. The specific cause of a particular Event cannot always be predicted. Use the recommended actions as a guide and investigate any other conditions or circumstances that may indicate the cause of a specific active Event.

0889
Winch Disabled
Accumulator is not charging properly.
The Accumulator Pressure Switch has failed.
Open circuit or grounded diagnostic on either the Winch Main Pressure(System Flow) solenoid or the Winch Supply Boost Accumulator(Accumulator) solenoid.
Check winch hydraulic system pressures.
Troubleshoot any active diagnostic codes.
2115
Implements Locked
A diagnostic code is active for a component in the implement system.
A blade control solenoid is shorted to the battery.
A CID 0490 diagnostic code is active for the implement lockout switch.
A CID 0168 diagnostic code is active for the system voltage.
Troubleshoot all the active diagnostic codes for the implement system and perform the necessary repairs.

Events for the Power Train ECM
