Start By:

  1. Fully articulate the machine to the right and chock all of the wheels. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
  2. Disconnect the rod end of the steering cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Cylinder - Remove".
  3. Remove the front section of the auxiliary drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft (Auxiliary) - Remove".
  4. Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, " Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the hydraulic oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic Oil (Implement)- Change".

  1. Drain the transmission oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission Oil - Change".

  1. Disconnect hose assemblies (1), tube assembly (2), and hose assembly (3) .

  1. Disconnect hose assembly (4) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to screen assembly (5). The weight of screen assembly (5) is approximately 50 kg (110 lb). Remove bolts (6). Remove screen assembly (5) .

  1. Repeat Step 3 through Step 5 for the remaining screen assemblies.

  1. Disconnect hose assemblies (7) .

  1. Remove bolt (8), disconnect tube assembly (9), disconnect bracket (10). Position hose assembly (11) and harness assembly (12) out of the way.

  1. Disconnect hose assemblies (13) and remove the connecting hardware.

  1. Disconnect hose assemblies (14) and hose assemblies (15) .

  1. Disconnect hose assembly (16). Disconnect harness assembly (17) and remove the connecting hardware.

  1. Remove bracket assembly (18) .

  1. Remove covers (19). Remove tube assembly (20) .

  1. Install Tooling (B) .

  1. Disconnect bracket (21) and position out of the way.

  1. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to transmission (22). The weight of transmission (22) is approximately 1315 kg (2900 lb).

  1. Remove four of bolts (23). Install Tooling (E) .

  1. Remove the remaining bolts (23) and nuts (24) .

  1. Use Tooling (C) and Tooling (D) in order to pull transmission (22) from the rear chassis. Use a suitable lift truck and Tooling (A) in order to remove transmission (22) .

  1. Remove O-ring seal (25) .
