Water Pump - Remove and Install

Usage:

904B B4L

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the cooling system package. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Cooling System Package Remove".

------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.

Steam can cause personal injury.

Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with the bare hand.

Remove the filler cap slowly to relieve pressure.

Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Disconnect hose (1). Disconnect hose (3) from water pump (2) .

  1. Disconnect lower radiator hose (4) from water pump (2) .

  1. Disconnect hose (6) from water temperature regulator housing (5) .

  1. Remove bolts (7) in order to remove water pump (2). Remove the gasket.

Installation Procedure

Note: Completely clean all portion of the gasket from the engine block prior to the installation of the new gasket.

  1. Install the gasket into position. Install water pump (2) into position. Secure water pump (2) with bolts (7) .

  1. Connect hose (6) to the water temperature regulator (5) .

  1. Connect lower radiator hose (4) to water pump (2) .

  1. Connect hose (3) and hose (1) to water pump (2) .

End By: Install the cooling system package. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Cooling System Package Install".
