Machining of Replacement Sleeve Bearings{1206, 1212, 1234}

Introduction

Do not perform any procedure in this instruction until you have read all of the information and you understand all of the information.

Note: Replacement of the gear is recommended when the sleeve bearing is replaced.


NOTICE

Engine damage can occur if the bearings are not within the tolerances. Make sure that the bearing meets the specifications given in this instruction.


Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly Manual for instructions on removing and on installing the sleeve bearing.

Note: Refer to the Parts Manual for the part numbers for the bearings.

After the sleeve bearing is installed in the gear, machine the inside diameter to the correct size.

Cluster Idler Gear

Note: The following dimensions are for a new gear.

(1) Cluster idler gear

Surface finish of the sleeve bearing ... 0.8 micrometers

(A) Finished inside diameter of the sleeve bearing ... 75.06 ± 0.01 mm (2.9551 ± 0.0004 inch)

(B) Depth of the sleeve bearing ... 1.5 ± 0.5 mm (0.06 ± 0.02 inch)

(C) The pitch diameter must be concentric with the following value. ... 0.15 mm (0.006 inch)

(D) The surface of the gear must be square with the bore within the following value. ... 0.05 mm (0.002 inch)

Note: The following dimensions are for a new gear.

Surface finish of the sleeve bearing ... 0.8 micrometers

(A) Finished inside diameter of the sleeve bearing ... 81.060 ± 0.010 mm (3.1913 ± 0.0004 inch)

(B) Depth of the sleeve bearing ... 1.000 ± 0.250 mm (0.0394 ± 0.0098 inch)

(C) The pitch diameter must be concentric with the following value. ... 0.120 mm (0.0047 inch)

(D) The surface of the gear must be square with the bore within the following value. ... 0.05 mm (0.002 inch)

Machining the Sleeve Bearings

(1) Shaft

Diameter of the shaft ... 74.99 ± 0.01 mm (2.9524 ± 0.0004 inch)

  1. Install gear (3) onto chuck (2) for machining. Ensure that the gear is square on the chuck.

  1. Use lathe (4) to turn the bearing.

  1. Use honing tool (5) to obtain the finish.
