Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".

Note: SERVICE DATA: TOOLING (ZZ) WILL NOT BE IDENTIFIED IN PHOTOGRAPHS IN THE REMOVAL OR THE INSTALLATION. THIS TOOLING IS SHOWN IN ORDER TO ASSIST THE EXPERIENCED SERVICEMAN.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Open drain valve (1) to drain the fuel from fuel tank (2) into a suitable container for reuse or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for the capacity of the fuel tank. Close drain valve (1) .

  1. Close two fuel valves (3) .

  1. Disconnect hose assemblies (4) and (5) at the fuel valves.

  1. Disconnect electrical connector (6) .

  1. Remove cable strap (7). Position the wiring harness out of the way.

  1. Disconnect electrical connector (10) .

  1. Remove handrail (8) .

  1. Remove fender (9) .

  1. Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to fuel tank (2). The weight of the fuel tank is approximately 220 kg (485 lb).

  1. Remove four bolts (11), and the washers from fuel tank (2) .

  1. Remove four bolts (12), and the washers from the fuel tank.

  1. Remove the fuel tank.
