Note: You must save the new level surface design to a data card in the Display before you can work to the design.
Creating a Level Surface
A level surface requires an elevation and a name. Creating a level surface generates a design file. The design file then needs to be loaded for the system to give machine guidance.
In order to create and load a level surface in the field, complete the following steps:
- Press "Design: <Name>" from any guidance view. The Select Design File dialog appears. Refer to Illustration 1.

- Press "New Level". The New Design: Level Surface dialog appears. Refer to Illustration 2.

- Do one of the following actions:
- Press the "Here" soft key in order to use the current elevation at the guidance point that has focus.
- After you press the "Here" soft key, you can still use the arrow keys to change the values.
- One of the "Blade: Left" or "Blade: Right" soft keys appears in the Level Surface Design dialog. This ensures that you know which blade tip the position is taken from.
- Use the arrow keys to enter the design elevation.
Note: If the "Here" soft key is not available, it means that a high accuracy position is not available. For more information, Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Troubleshooting Techniques".
- After you press the "Here" soft key, you can still use the arrow keys to change the values.
- Press "OK" in order to confirm the settings.
The Design Name dialog appears:

Note: The AccuGrade System gives the design a default name.

- Press the "Here" soft key in order to use the current elevation at the guidance point that has focus.
- If required, edit the default name, then press "OK" in order to accept the name and return to the "Select Design File" dialog.
The design just created is highlighted.
- Press "OK" in order to load the new level surface design, and return to the plan view guidance screen.
