Engine Oil Pressure Switch - Remove and Install

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

    Typical example

    Note: The engine oil pressure switch can be located in one of two positions, on the valve mechanism cover or on the cylinder block. Refer to Specifications, "Engine Oil Pressure Switch".

  1. Disconnect the harness assembly for engine oil pressure switch (1) .

  1. If engine oil pressure switch (1) is located on the valve mechanism cover, remove the engine oil pressure switch.

    If engine oil pressure switch (1) is located on the cylinder block, remove the engine oil pressure switch and adapter assembly. Remove engine oil pressure switch (1) from the adapter.

    Note: The engine oil pressure switch can be located in one of two positions, on the valve mechanism cover or on the cylinder block. Refer to Specifications, "Engine Oil Pressure Switch".

  1. If a used engine oil pressure switch (1) is installed, apply a thin layer of Tooling (A) to the threads of the engine oil pressure switch.

  1. If engine oil pressure switch (1) is located in the valve mechanism cover, Install engine oil pressure switch (1). Tighten engine oil pressure switch (1) to a torque of 11 N·m (97 lb in).

    If engine oil pressure switch (1) is located in the cylinder block, install the adapter to the cylinder block and tighten to a torque of 23 N·m (17 lb ft). Install engine oil pressure switch (1) on the adapter and tighten engine oil pressure switch (1) to a torque of 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  1. Connect the harness assembly to engine oil pressure switch (1) .
