New Main And Connecting Rod Bearings Have Copper Bond Material{1203,1219,1230}

Usage:

1100, 3100 Series Engines And 3208 Engines

Description of Change: The design of the standard, oversize and undersize main and connecting rod bearings for the above engines has changed. These new bearings are used in all 3208 Engines. The new design uses a copper material to bond the lead-tin overlay to the aluminum bearing material. See the illustration. The former design used a nickel material to bond the overlay to the aluminum bearing material. The copper bond material will decrease the possibility of scuffing after the lead-tin overlay is worn away. This will provide improved bearing reliability.

Adaptable As: The new "copper-bond" bearings are direct replacements for the former "nickel-bond" bearings as shown in the charts. In many cases, a new copper bond bearing has the same part number as the former nickel bond bearing.

The charts show the series of bearing part numbers from earliest to current usage. Use the charts as an aid for parts information. The bearing part numbers are shown in columns, with the earliest part numbers in the left column, proceeding to the current part numbers in the right column. Any of the part numbers shown are acceptable for use in engines. Some of the earlier bearings are still available for parts service. Those part numbers which are canceled and no longer available are noted in the chart footnotes.

NOTE: Copper bond bearings are also used for the main and connecting rod bearings of 3204 Engines.
