Final Drive - Disassemble

Start By:

Remove the final drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive - Remove".

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Use Tooling (B) in order to remove retaining ring (3). Remove sun gear (2). Remove spacer (1).

Remove planetary shafts (4).

Use Tooling (B) in order to remove retaining ring (5).
Repeat Step 3 in order to remove the retaining rings from the remaining planetary shafts.

Remove planetary gears (7). Remove seal (6).

Remove thrust washers (8), roller bearings (9), and spacers (10) from planetary gear (7).
Repeat Step 6 in order to disassemble the remaining two planetary gears.

Support ring gear (11) and hub (12) with blocking. The weight of hub (12) is approximately 50 kg (110 lb). The weight of ring gear (11) is approximately 45 kg (100 lb).

Remove two opposing retainers (13) and install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device. Remove the other retainers (13).

Use Tooling (A) and the suitable lifting device to remove hub (12) from ring gear (11).
