Start By:
- Remove the differential and bevel gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Differential and Bevel Gear - Remove".
Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force. Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment. Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force. |

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Mount the differential and bevel gear onto Tooling (A) .

- Remove O-ring seal (2) . Remove retainer (1) and the shims.

- Remove O-ring seal (3) from retainer (1) .

- Install Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to cover (4) . Remove cover (4) . The weight of cover (4) is approximately 32 kg (70 lb).

- Remove O-ring seal (5) from cover (4) .

- Install Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device on differential (6) . Remove differential (6) . The weight of differential (6) is approximately 82 kg (180 lb).

- Remove bearing cup (7) .

- Install Tooling (C) in order to remove bearing cone (19) from pinion (14) .
