Detail A

(B) End Play Gap.

Note: If replacement of the disc kits is required, replace the disc kits with disc kits of the same type. "Thin" or "Thick" is marked on the differential case. Use either two thin disc kits or two thick disc kits. Do not use one thin disc kit and one thick disc kit.

Use 907 kg (2000 lb) of preload in order to measure the end play gap.

  1. Measure end play gap (B) .

If end play gap (B) is less than 0.81 mm (.032 inch), refer to Table 1 for the expected life of the friction disc. If the expected life is acceptable, no replacement is needed.

If end play gap (B) is greater than 0.81 mm (.032 inch), replace the disc kits with the type of disc kits that are marked on the differential case.

  1. Measure end play gap (B) of the limited slip differential with new disc kits. If the end play gap is between 0.203 to 0.508 mm (.008 to .020 inch) the limited slip differential meets the specifications.

If the end play gap is greater than 0.508 mm (.020 inch) after installation of two thin disc kits, replace the thin disc kits with two thick disc kits. Measure the end play gap. If the end play gap is between 0.203 to 0.508 mm (.008 to .020 inch) the limited slip differential meets the specifications. Proceed with Step 4.

If the end play gap is not between 0.203 to 0.508 mm (.008 to .020 inch), the limited slip differential does not meet the specifications. Proceed with Step 3.

  1. Replace the pinion shafts and/or both actuator housings in order to install either two thin disc kits or two thick disc kits. Measure the end play gap (B). The new end play gap is between 0.203 to 0.508 mm (.008 to .020 inch). Proceed with Step 4.

  1. Change the existing mark on the differential case if the disc kits were changed from the original disc kits.
