613C Series II Wheel Tractor-Scraper Caterpillar

Belts - Inspect/Adjust/Replace

Usage:

613C II 8LJ
Inspect the belts for the following conditions:

  • Cracks

  • Missing pieces

  • Frayed areas

  • Wear

A worn belt will ride in the bottom of the pulley. Replace the belts if any of these conditions exist. Replace the belts if the belts are stretched beyond the limits of the adjuster.

Note: If new belts are installed, recheck the belt adjustment after 30 minutes of operation. If two belts or more are required for an application, replace the belts in belt sets that are matched. If only one belt of a matched set is replaced, the new belt will carry more load. Belts of the same part number are not necessarily matched belts.

The radiator has been removed for photographic purposes.

The drive belt for the fan and the drive belt for the alternator are located in the engine compartment of the tractor. Open the access door for the engine compartment in order to inspect the belts. Replace the belts if the belts are worn or if the belts are damaged.

  1. Loosen nut (4).

  2. Loosen bolt (1). Attach a wrench to bracket (2).

  3. Move bracket (2) until the proper belt tension is reached. To check the belt tension, apply 110 N (25 lb) of force midway between the pulleys. Correctly adjusted belts (3) will deflect 13 to 19 mm (1/2 to 3/4 inch).

  4. Tighten bolt (1) and nut (4).
