This instruction gives the procedure to install reinforcement plates on the C-frame on the above dozer blades. The dozer blade must be removed from the machine, and the C-frame must be removed from the blade to get a good quality weld repair and reinforcement installation.
NOTE: Use only AWS E7018 Welding Rods or welding rods to meet the same specifications to make repairs and install the reinforcement plates on the C-frame.
(1) Remove the dozer blade from the machine, and remove the C-frame from the dozer blade; see the Service Manual. Inspect the C-frame for cracks or damaged areas. Use a grinder to remove all the paint, rust and rough areas from the C-frame in the area where the reinforcement plates will be installed.
(2) Tack weld plates (2), (4), (9), (10), (15) and (18) on the bottom of the C-frame at the locations shown. Leave a 3.0 mm (.12") minimum gap between the ends of the plates. Make 6.0 mm (.25") fillet welds with 1.5 mm (.06") penetration along each side of the six plates but do not weld around the ends of the plates at four locations (A). Make V-groove welds [10.0 mm (.40") - 6A; 9.5 mm (.38") - 4A] to connect the ends of the plates together. Grind the welds smooth and even with the surface of the plates.
(3) Tack weld plates (1), (5), (7), (12), (14) and (17) to the outside of the C-frame, and tack weld plates (3), (6), (8), (11), (13) and (16) to the inside of the C-frame at the locations shown. Use the weld procedures shown on page 3 to make the welds around the plates. Put paint on all the new reinforcement plates and the welds.
