Camshaft Bearings - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the camshaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Camshaft - Remove".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

    Note: Note the position of Oil Hole (Y) and Bearing Joint (X) in each camshaft bearing prior to removal for assembly purposes.

  1. Use Tooling (A) to remove camshaft bearings (1) from the cylinder block.

NOTICE

Note: Ensure that the inside of the cylinder block is clean. Inspect the camshaft bearing bores for metal burrs. Put a thin film of clean engine oil on the inside of the camshaft bearing bores and on each camshaft bearing prior to installation.

  1. Use Tooling (A) to install the No. 4 camshaft bearing, the No. 3 camshaft bearing, and the No. 2 camshaft bearing. Locate the camshaft bearing (1) so that Oil Hole (Y) and Bearing Joint (X) are in the position that is shown in Illustration 2.

    Note: The No. 4 camshaft bearing is located at the rear of the cylinder block.

    Note: Refer to Specifications, "Cylinder Block" for appropriate information for the orientation and the position of the camshaft bearings in the cylinder block.

  2. Use Tooling (A) to install the No. 1 camshaft bearing. Locate camshaft bearing (1) so that Oil Hole (Y) and Bearing Joint (X) are in the position that is shown in Illustration 3. Refer to the Specifications for more information.

    Note: The No. 1 camshaft bearing is located at the front of the cylinder block.

    Note: Refer to Specifications, "Cylinder Block" for appropriate information for the orientation and the position of the camshaft bearings in the cylinder block.

End By:

  1. Install the camshaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Camshaft - Install".
