停机过程中,发动机机油压力下降,但涡轮增压器的叶轮还在旋转,此时蓄能器 (1)可向涡轮增压器轴承提供润滑。 这将有助于提高涡轮增压器的使用寿命。

起动后,发动机机油压力上升,加压的机油从发动机缸体向上流经转接器 (2)。 部分机油经由油管和软管流到两个涡轮增压器。 其余的机油通过软管流到蓄能器。

蓄能器具有一个充满氮气的蓄能室 (3)。 阀 (4)用来向蓄能室充氮气和测量蓄能室内的气压。

活塞 (5)的移动受压差驱使。 蓄能室上部的氮气将活塞向下压。 发动机运转过程中,发动机机油压力会高于氮气压力。 加压的发动机机油将活塞向上推。 蓄能室的下部充注机油,直到机油压力与氮气压力相等为止。

活塞的外径装有密封,以防止气或油在蓄能器的上下部分之间穿流。 发动机运转期间,蓄能室的下部一直保持充注机油。

当发动机停机时,氮气压力会高于发动机机油压力。 活塞被向下压,机油被强制压出蓄能室,并压回到转接器。

转接器有一个单向阀,该单向阀此时关闭了来自缸体的油道。 这就防止了来自蓄能器的机油回流缸体。 这些机油被引导到两个涡轮增压器。 润滑涡轮增压器轴承之后,这些机油从涡轮增压器泄流到发动机后壳体。

来自蓄能器的机油持续润滑涡轮增压器,直到氮气将活塞压到底,来自蓄能器的供油耗尽为止。
