Crankshaft Main Bearings - Install

Installation Procedure

Crankshaft Main Bearings

  1. Install main bearings (4) into the halves of the main bearing caps.

  1. Position the upper half of main bearing cap (2) in position on the crankshaft. Position the lower half of main bearing cap (7) in position on the crankshaft.

    Note: Refer to the identification marks that have been made on the main bearing carriers for correct alignment.

    Note: Ensure that dowels (5) are in the correct position. This will ensure that the two halves of the main bearing caps are aligned.

    Note: Ensure that the lubricating oil holes align with the oil feed holes in the cylinder block.

  1. Install thrust washers (3) and thrust washer (6) .

    Note: Ensure that the thrust washers are aligned correctly and that the oil grooves are facing the crankshaft.

  1. Install bolts (1) . Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 52 N·m (38 lb ft).

  1. Install crankshaft bearing (8) . Use Tooling (A) and a hammer to drive crankshaft bearing (8) from the outside of cylinder block (9) .

    Note: Ensure that oil supply hole (12) is aligned with the oil gallery in cylinder block (9) .

    Note: Ensure that chamfered side (11) of crankshaft bearing (8) is facing toward cylinder block (9) and that joint (10) of crankshaft bearing (8) is facing toward the top of cylinder block (9) .

End By: Install the crankshaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft - Install".
