- Install the lip seal in housing (1) with Tooling (A) to the bottom of the seal counterbore. Put a thin layer of engine oil on the lip of the seal.

- Put gear (6) in position on the shaft and install the washer and the bolt.

Illustration 8 g00992707 Show/hide tableNOTICE Clean water is the only lubricant that is permitted for assembly. DO NOT damage or touch the wear surfaces of the carbon ring or the ceramic ring. Install the ceramic ring with the smoothest face of the ring toward the carbon seal.
- Put ceramic ring (8) in position in the rubber seal. Use hand pressure and use the tooling that is with the replacement ring to install the ceramic ring and the rubber seal.

Illustration 9 g00992713 - Remove the spring from the seal assembly (9). Use hand pressure and the tooling that is with the replacement ring to install the seal assembly. Push the seal assembly on the shaft until the seal faces make light contact.

Illustration 12 g00992724 - Install the washer and bolt (12). Tighten the bolt to a torque of
39 ± 1 N·m (28 ± 1 lb ft) . - Install a new gasket and cover (13) on the housing.

Note: The seal must be installed with the lip toward the bearings.
