With the 6V3100 Diesel Timing Indicator Group, you can measure the engine/fuel system timing and the mechanical advance on the above engines from the operator's compartment. Through the use of transducers and because there are no load or rpm restrictions, the indicator group can make the measurements, with accuracy, during a work cycle.

The 6V3100 Diesel Timing Indicator Group is made up of the indicator and the components which follow. The components in the list are available for parts service.

The tee adapter group is installed in the No. 1 cylinder injection line. The line is extended only 8 mm (.3") which keeps line bends to a minimum and permits fast installation. The injection transducer "reads" the rpm (250 to 4000) with accuracy of ± 12 rpm.

A magnetic transducer is installed in the TDC hole in the flywheel housing on 1100, 3300 and 3400 Series Engines or in the timing hole in the camshaft drive gear for 3208 Engines. The magnetic and injection transducers together "read" the timing to the nearest 0.1° from 0° to 60° before top dead center, with typical accuracy of ± 0.20°.

The 6V3100 Diesel Timing Indicator Group needs 11 to 40 volts direct current at 0.1 amperes to operate. It can get its power from any 12-, 24- or 32-volt vehicle electrical system, or, for applications where the engine has no electrical system, two 6-volt lantern batteries connected in series.

All cable assemblies used in the indicator group are approximately 5.5 m (18 ft) long, and their connections will work only one way. Wrong connections, including polarity for power, are not possible.

In the operator's compartment, the indications are given on a liquid crystal display (LCD) for the serviceman.

The 3.2 kg (7 lb) indicator group is calibrated (adjusted) by the dealer with a 5P9698 Calibrator when an internal calibrator shows it is necessary.

Troubleshooting the 6V3100 Diesel Timing Indicator Group is easy. A single circuit board can be repaired at most electronic repair shops. Electronic service information will be given in a future Special Instruction. If desired, the indicator group can be sent for repairs, to:
