Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the alternator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator - Remove".

2. Remove the fan drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Drive - Remove and Install".

3. Remove the crankshaft pulley. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper and Pulley - Remove".

4. Remove the water pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Pump - Remove and Install".

1. Remove bolts (1) and nuts (3) from front cover (2).

2. Remove gasket (4) from the front cover and the front housing.

3. Remove the crankshaft front seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Seal - Remove".

Installation Procedure

1. Clean all surfaces of the front housing and clean the front cover thoroughly.

2. Install the crankshaft front seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Seal - Install".

3. Position gasket (4) on the front housing. Position front cover (2) on the front housing. Install nuts (3) and install two bolts (1) in order to locate the front cover on the front housing. Do Not Tighten bolts (1) or nuts (3) at this time.

4. Install Tooling (A) on the crankshaft in order to center the front cover on the front housing.

5. Install the remaining bolts (1) in the front housing. Tighten bolts (1) and nuts (3) to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

6. Remove Tooling (A) from the crankshaft.

End By:

1. Install the water pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Pump - Remove and Install".

2. Install the crankshaft pulley. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper and Pulley - Install".

3. Install the fan drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Drive - Remove and Install".

4. Install the alternator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator - Install".
