C7 Engines for Combat and Tactical Vehicles Caterpillar

The 0252-12 diagnostic code indicates that the ECM is incorrect for the engine arrangement and/or the wrong software has been flashed in the ECM.

The ECM detects one of the following conditions:

• The engine software and the ECM are not compatible.

• The ECM does not support the software that is flashed.

• The ECM is incorrect for the engine arrangement.

System Response:

The "Check Engine Lamp" will illuminate while this code is active. The code requires resetting the interlock "Personality Module Code" to zero. Use the electronic service tool and the "Factory Passwords" to clear the diagnostic code. The code is not logged.

The engine will not start while the code is active.

Test Step 1. Perform the following diagnostic procedure: ECM Memory - Test

Results:

• OK - The ECM has the correct Personality Module and software.STOP

• Not OK - 252-12 is still active. The ECM is incorrect for the engine arrangement. The ECM must be replaced.

  Repair: Replace the ECM. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Replacing the ECM".
