New thermocouples are used to measure the engine exhaust temperature. The new thermocouples provide the following improvements:
- The new thermocouples have the same overall length but the length of the metal sheath has been reduced while the length of the cable has been increased.
- In order to relieve stress on the cable, a spring has been installed on the end of the sheath.
- Inside the metal sheath, silicone sealant that resists high temperatures has been applied to the splice between the external cable and the internal thermocouple.
The new 226-7782 Thermocouple (90 Degree Bend) is a direct replacement for the former 179-8793 Thermocouple (90 Degree Bend). The new 226-7783 Thermocouple (Straight) is a direct replacement for the former 180-9043 Thermocouple (Straight). The former thermocouples are cancelled. These thermocouples are used in the 162-8442 Exhaust Temperature Sensor Gp. Eighteen 226-7782 Thermocouple (90 Degree Bend) and four 226-7783 Thermocouple (Straight) are used in each exhaust temperature sensor group.
Note: The 189-5530 Nut and the 189-5531 Ferrule that were used with the former 179-8793 Thermocouple (90 Degree Bend) are still available for use with the new 226-7782 Thermocouple (90 Degree Bend).
Note: The 164-0773 Nut and the 164-0774 Ferrule that were used with the former 180-9043 Thermocouple (Straight) are still available for use with the new 226-7783 Thermocouple (Straight).
