The Engine Control Module (ECM) detects the following conditions:
- Omitted injector trim codes
- A "Customer Specified Parameter" or a system configuration parameter have not been programmed properly.
or
- The "ECM Interlock" and "Personality Module Interlock" do not match.
System Response:
Note: The fault is active only and the fault is not logged.
If the personality module code of the new personality module does not match the code of the old personality module, the engine is limited to low idle. If the "Rating Number" has not been programmed, the ECM limits the engine to 89.5 kW (120.0 hp). When a new ECM is initially powered up, the following parameters must be programmed to avoid this diagnostic code:
- "Full Load Setting" (FLS)
- "Full Torque Setting" (FTS)
- "Injector codes"
- "Truck Manufacturer"
- "Rating Number"
- "Engine Serial Number"
- "Vehicle Speed Calibration"
"Vehicle Speed Input" parameter is programmed to "J1/P1:32 & 33".
- J1939"Transmission Vehicle Speed Cal".
"Transmission Vehicle Speed Cal input " is "J1939-Trans".
- J1939"ABS Vehicle Speed Cal"
"Vehicle Speed Input" is programmed to "J1939-ABS".
Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) will display a list of the parameters that require programming. If two or more "Multi I/O" parameters are programmed to the same input/output, only one of the "Multi I/O" parameters will be listed at one time. The check engine light will illuminate.
The ECM will limit the engine to low idle if the parameter is the FLS or the FTS. The ECM will also derate the power if the parameter is a rating number to 89.5 kW (120 hp) and the vehicle speed is limited to 73 km/h (45 mph).
Test Step 1. Perform the following diagnostic procedure: ECM Memory - Test
Results:
- OK - STOP
- Not OK - Proceed to Test Step 2.
Test Step 2. Perform the following diagnostic procedure: Injector Code - Calibrate
Results:
- OK - STOP
