Manual Stop Procedure - Truck Engine

Usage:

CPT372 1WZ

NOTICE

Stopping the engine immediately after the engine has been operating under a load can result in overheating and accelerated wear of the engine components.

Allow the engine to gradually cool before stopping the engine.

There may be several ways to stop the truck engine. Ensure that the stopping procedure is understood. Use the following guidelines for stopping the truck engine.

For additional switch information, refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Control Panel".

  1. Disengage the driven equipment. Unload the triplex pump.

  1. Set the gear selector to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. Increase the speed of the truck engine. The speed must be between 1000 and 1200 rpm. Run the truck engine at no load for 5 to 10 minutes. This will allow the following situations to occur:

    • The lubricating oil will carry the heat away from the turbochargers. This will prevent premature bearing failure.

    • The engine coolant will distribute heat from the engine evenly through the cooling system. This will prevent cracks in the cylinder heads.

  1. Decrease the speed of the truck engine to low idle.

  1. Permit the truck engine to idle for at least one minute.

  1. Depress the "TRUCK ENGINE SHUTDOWN" switch in order to stop the truck engine.

  1. Move the "FRONT PUMP PROX. RATE" switch to the OFF position.

  1. Ensure that both the deck engine and the truck engine are stopped. Move the "MASTER" switch to the OFF position.
