NOTICE

For initial start-up of a new or rebuilt engine, and for start-up of an engine that has been serviced, make provision to shut the engine off should an overspeed occur. This may be accomplished by shutting off the air and/or fuel supply to the engine.

Do not start the engines or move any of the controls if there is a "DO NOT OPERATE" warning tag or a similar warning tag attached to the start switch or to the controls.

Ensure that no one will be endangered before the engines are started and when the engines are started.

For additional switch information, refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Control Panel".

  1. Perform all of the procedures that are described in this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Before Starting Engine" topic (Operation Section).

  1. Ensure that the gear selectors are in the NEUTRAL position.

  1. Move the "MASTER" switch into the ON position.

Note: The "MASTER" switch is only active when the "REMOTE/CAB CONTROL" switch, which is located in the truck cab, is in the REMOTE position. The ignition key switch, which is located in the truck cab, must also be in the ON position. The "PTO CONTROL" switch, which is located in the truck cab, must also be in the ON position.

  1. Move the "FRONT PUMP PROX. RATE" switch into the ON position.

  1. Move the "REAR PUMP PROX. RATE" switch into the ON position.

  1. Ensure that the "TRUCK ENGINE THROTTLE" and the "DECK ENGINE THROTTLE" are in the Idle position.

  1. Move the power switch that is for the digital pressure gauges into the ON position. Set the digital pressure gauges to display the discharge pressure of the triplex pumps.

  1. Depress the "START" switch and hold the "START" switch for the truck engine. Release the "START" switch when the truck engine starts.

  1. Allow the truck engine to run at low idle rpm until the system's air pressure reaches approximately 690 kPa (100 psi).

  1. Depress the "START" switch and hold the "START" switch for the deck engine. Release the "START" switch when the deck engine starts.

  1. After the deck engine starts, operate the deck engine at low idle rpm for two to three minutes. Allow the jacket water coolant temperature to begin to rise before increasing the rpm of the deck engine. Check the gauges during the warm-up period.

  1. Cycle the "FRONT SHD RESET" and the "REAR SHD RESET" switches.

  1. Increase the speed of the engines to 1000 rpm.

  1. Allow the engines to warm up until the coolant temperature reaches at least 54 °C (130 °F). Part throttle operation of the engines is now permissible. Wait until the coolant temperature reaches at least 71 °C (160 °F) before operating the engines at full throttle.

During the warm-up time, all gauges should be checked. A walk-around inspection should be performed. Listen for unusual noises. In areas with subzero temperatures, a longer warm-up time is required.
