- Mount the unit injector hydraulic pump in a vertical position on a work bench. The fuel transfer pump should be completely vertical and placed in the upward position.
Note: Failure to maintain a vertical position results in misalignment of the internal components.
- Remove three bolts (4) that fasten fuel transfer pump (3) to unit injector hydraulic pump (1). Remove the bolts in any order.
- Remove tie bolt (2) that is located in the top left corner of the pump first.
- Replace tie bolt (2) with the temporary bolt that is provided in Tooling (A) .
Note: The bolt that is provided in the kit has an undersized bolt head. Placement of this bolt will prevent the body of the unit injector hydraulic pump from separating during service.
- Torque temporary bolt (2) to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
Note: Do not apply excessive torque to the bolt.
- Start with tie bolt (5) in the lower left corner and remove the remainder of the bolts from the fuel transfer pump (3) .
- Separate fuel transfer pump (3) from unit injector hydraulic pump (1) .
