Power End Oil and Filter - Change

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Drain the Oil

Before starting this procedure, ensure that both of the engines are stopped.

(1) Drain plug

  1. Remove plug (1) .

  1. Allow the oil to drain.

  1. Install the plug.

Replace the Oil Filters

  1. Relieve any pressure in the oil filter or in the oil line.

  1. Remove drain plug (5) .

  1. Remove filter bowl (4) by rotating the filter bowl clockwise.

  1. Remove filter element (3) from filter base (2) .

  1. Apply clean oil to the O-ring of the new filter element. Install the new filter element.

  1. Inspect the filter bowl O-ring. Replace the filter bowl O-ring if the filter bowl O-ring is damaged.

  1. Install the filter bowl on the filter base and tighten the filter bowl to 88 N·m (65 lb ft).

  1. Install the drain plug and tighten the drain plug to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

Fill the Crankcase

(1) Breather cap

(2) Oil level gauge

  1. Remove breather cap (1).

  1. Fill the crankcase with 95 L (25 US gal) of lubricant. For information on the proper lubricant to use, refer to the triplex pump's "OEM Service Manual".

  1. Check oil level gauge (2) in order to ensure the proper oil level.

  1. Install the breather cap.
