Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is available, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Reports of engine oil pressure warnings occur on the machines listed above. Caterpillar is aware of this problem, but a solution has not been identified.

Solution

Communicate with your dealer technical communicator and submit a service request when the low-pressure warning occurs.

If an engine oil low-pressure warning is displayed on the monitor, confirm the following procedures before replacing the pressure switch.

  • Confirm the monitor and machine ECM software is the latest version. Update the software to the latest version if required.

  • Check the pressure switch connection.

  • Note when the warning occurs.

  • Communicate with your dealer technical communicator and submit a service request.

Troubleshooting

Apply the following procedure when the engine oil pressure low warning is illuminated on the monitor.

  1. Measure the engine oil. Refer to KENR6757. Find the cause of the problem and correct the problem if the results of the test do not fall within the pressure range in the table of the Test & Adjust (KENR6757). If the results of the test fall within the pressure range in the table from the Test & Adjust (KENR6757), apply the next step

  1. Check the timing that the lamp turns on and off before the repair procedure. (The engineering team wants information to improve this issue).

  1. Check the pressure switch circuit while the engine is running and the low-pressure warning is illuminated. The circuit should be closed while the low-pressure warning is illuminated.

  1. Disconnect and reconnect the harness for the 387-9910 Pressure Switch . If the problem was not solved, apply the next step.

  1. Remove the pressure switch from the engine and check the surface of the switch. If there is no problem, reinstall the pressure switch to the engine. If the problem was not solved, apply the next step.

  1. Replace the pressure switch with a new pressure switch.

Note: To understand and improve this problem more correctly, please report when the indicator lamp turns on at which point and turns off at which point. Further detail information is appreciated. For example: the lamp always turns on and off at the same time or is random.

Contact your Caterpillar Technical Communicator (TC) so that a Service Request can be submitted containing information concerning this problem. The TC will work with the Dealer Solutions Network (DSN) to report this information
