Note: Use clean engine oil to lubricate the threads of the cylinder head bolts before assembly.
Use the following procedure to tighten the cylinder head bolts:
- Torque for the bolt (1) through bolt (20) in a numerical sequence to 270 ± 27 N·m (200 ± 20 lb ft)
- Again torque the bolt (1) through bolt (20) in a numerical sequence to 450 ± 20 N·m (330 ± 15 lb ft).
- Finally torque the bolt (1) through bolt (20) in a numerical sequence to 450 ± 20 N·m (330 ± 15 lb ft).
- Install the rocker arm assemblies onto the cylinder head.
- Torque for the bolt (21) through bolt (26) in a numerical sequence to 270 ± 27 N·m (200 ± 20 lb ft)
- Again torque the bolt (21) through bolt (26) in a numerical sequence to 450 ± 20 N·m (330 ± 15 lb ft).
- Finally torque the bolt (21) through bolt (26) in a numerical sequence to 450 ± 20 N·m (330 ± 15 lb ft).
- Torque for bolt (27) through bolt (39) at any tightening sequence to 43 ± 7 N·m (32 ± 5 lb ft)
Note: Tighten the bolt (27) through bolt (39) only after the cylinder head bolts have been given final torque.
Note: Use clean engine oil to lubricate the threads of the bolts prior to installation.

(G) The cup plugs are installed into the cylinder head at the following depth. ... 0.8 ± 0.5 mm (0.03 ± 0.02 inch)

Note: Apply liquid soap (40% solid) to the O-ring seal (41) and to the bore of the cylinder head prior to installation of the adapter.
Note: Apply 4C-5599 Anti-Seize Compound onto the threads of the adapter prior to installation.
(40) Torque for adapter ... 95 ± 7 N·m (70 ± 5 lb ft)

(H) Install the cup plugs in each cylinder head to the following distance. ... 4.3 ± 0.8 mm (0.17 ± 0.03 inch)
Note: Install the cup plugs in the front side of each cylinder head after the cylinder head is installed on the cylinder block.
(J) Install the cup plugs to the following distance. ... 2.5 ± 0.8 mm (0.10 ± 0.03 inch)
