Reservoir (1) is located in the storage box as shown in Illustration 1.
Illustration 2 | g01177125 |
Pump Assembly |
The following components in the pump assembly are shown in Illustration 2:
- Reservoir (1)
- Wiper blade (2)
- Filler fitting (3)
- Housing (4)
- Outlet line (5)
- Relief valve (6)
- Pump element (7)
Pump Operation
Hydraulic Schematic

Hydraulic Schematic |
The following components in the hydraulic schematic are shown in Illustration 3:
- Reservoir (1)
- Wiper blade (2)
- Filler fitting (3)
- Housing (4)
- Outlet line (5)
- Relief valve (6)
- Pump element (7)
- Check valve (8)
- Electric motor (9)
- Relief port (10)
Pump Charging Stage
Illustration 4 | g01177241 |
Charging Stage |
The following components in the pump charging stage are shown in Illustration 4:
- Pump element (7)
- Check valve (8)
- Cam (11)
- Piston (12)
- Spring (13)
- Valve seat (14)
- Passages (15)
- Piston chamber (16)
- Spring (17)
Electric motor (9), pump element (7), and cam (11) are located in housing (4) .
Electric motor (9) causes wiper blade (2) and cam (11) to rotate clockwise. Wiper blade (2) forces lubricant (grease) from reservoir (1) to the pump element.
When pump element (7) is in the charging stage, piston (12) is shifted to the left by the force of spring (13). Spring (17) forces check valve (8) against valve seat (14). Lubricant is forced by wiper blade (2) through passage (15) into piston chamber (16) .
Pump Delivery Stage
Illustration 5 | g01177243 |
Pump Delivery Stage |
The following components in the pump delivery stage are shown in Illustration 5:
- Pump element (7)
- Check valve (8)
- Cam (11)
- Piston (12)
- Spring (13)
- Piston chamber (16)
- Spring (17)
- Discharge chamber (18)
As cam (11) continues to rotate clockwise, piston (12) is forced to the right, compressing spring (13). Lubricant in piston chamber (16) forces out of discharge (18) into outlet line (5) at a rate of 2.4 cc (0.15 in3) per minute. This rate is at 1000 kPa (145.0400 psi).
Note: Relief valve (6) limits system pressure to 35000 kPa (5075 psi). If lubricant is leaking at relief valve (6), it indicates that one of the metering devices or delivery lines is restricted. See the troubleshooting section in this module.
