Personal injury or death can result from improperly checking for a leak.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak. Escaping air or fluid under pressure, even a pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue causing serious injury, and possible death.

If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.



NOTICE

Accumulated grease and oil on a work tool is a fire hazard.

Remove debris with steam cleaning or high pressure water at any time a significant quantity of oil is spilled on the work tool.


For the maximum service life of the work tool, make a thorough walk-around inspection before you mount the machine and before you start the engine.

Clean any debris from the inside of the forks.

Clean any debris from the area that is around the hydraulic cylinders.

Inspect the work tool for the following conditions: loose bolts, oil leaks, broken parts, missing parts and worn parts.

Check the forks for wear or for damage. Inspect the welds, the pins, and the bores for damage. If the components are damaged, consult your Caterpillar dealer.

Inspect the wear strips that are located on the forks for wear or damage. Inspect the welds. If the wear strips or welds are worn or damaged, consult your Caterpillar dealer for additional information.

Inspect the condition of the hydraulic lines and the hydraulic fittings.

Perform all repairs before the work tool is put into service.

Check the hydraulic oil. Maintain the oil to the proper level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the host machine.

Check safety signs and labels. Replace the safety signs and the labels when the safety signs and the labels are damaged. Replace the safety signs and the labels when you cannot read the safety signs and the labels. Replace the safety signs and labels when the safety signs and labels are missing.
