------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.

Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.

------ WARNING! ------

Check valves in the hydraulic system may allow pressure to exist in the hydraulic lines after the engine has been stopped. Pressure must be relieved prior to servicing the components of the hydraulic system. Failure to relieve pressure prior to servicing may result in personal injury.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before operating any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

After collecting all fluids in suitable containers, dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Installation of the Work Tool

Note: Ensure that the Work Tool is compatible with the host machine. Consult any Caterpillar dealer for information on matching the Work Tool to the host machine.

Note: If the host machine is equipped with a quick coupler, consult the operating manuals for the quick coupler before you attempt to mount the Work Tool.

  1. Clean all of the pins and the bores for the pins. Grease all of the pins.

  2. Align the lower bores of the logging fork with the bores in the lift arms.

  3. Install the lower pins and lock the pins.

  4. Move the tilt linkage until the bores on the tilt linkage and the upper bore of the logging fork are aligned.

  5. Install the upper pins and lock the pins.

  6. Stop the engine of the host machine. Cycle all of the hydraulic controls in order to relieve the pressure in the hydraulic system.

  7. Clean all of the hydraulic fittings before installing the hydraulic fittings. Inspect all of the hydraulic fittings. Repair any damaged fittings. Replace any worn fittings. Connect all of the hydraulic hoses.

  8. Start the engine of the host machine. Cycle the hydraulic controls. Check for any hydraulic leaks. Repair any hydraulic leaks.

Removal of the Work Tool

  1. Place the logging fork on a surface that is flat and solid.

  2. Stop the engine of the host machine. Cycle all of the hydraulic controls in order to relieve the pressure in the hydraulic system.

  3. Remove the pin from the tilt linkage and the upper bore of the logging fork.

  4. Start the engine and move the tilt linkage away from the logging fork.

  5. Remove the pins from the lower bores of the logging fork and the lift arms of the host machine.

  6. Stop the engine of the host machine. Cycle all of the hydraulic controls in order to relieve the pressure in the hydraulic system.

  7. Place a suitable container under the hydraulic fittings. Remove the hydraulic fittings. Install the covers over the hydraulic fittings.

Note: Dispose of the oil in a proper manner.

  8. Start the engine of the host machine. Move the host machine away from the logging fork.

  9. After the logging fork has been removed, coat all of the bushings in the pin bores with grease. Coat all of the unused pins with grease.

Note: If the host machine is equipped with a quick coupler, refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the quick coupler that is installed on the host machine for proper removal of the logging fork.
