Engine Overspeeds on Start-up
The probable root causes are listed below:
- Injectors
- Starting aid (if applicable)
- Seal ring
- Ventilation
Note the conditions that caused the problem. Troubleshooting the symptoms under other conditions can give misleading results.
Perform the following tests:
- Refer to the diagnostic procedure Troubleshooting, "Engine Misfires, Runs Rough or Is Unstable".
- Check for proper operation of the starting aids.
- Check for oil at the inlet manifold.
- Check for hydrocarbons in the surrounding atmosphere.
