Cooling System Hoses - Inspect

  • Unlatch the engine hood and raise the engine hood.

    1. Inspect all hoses for leaks due to cracking, for softness next to the clamps, and for loose clamps.

    1. Replace hoses that are cracked or soft and tighten any loose clamps.

      Use Steps 3.a through 3.g to replace the hoses.

      1. Slowly loosen the cooling system pressure cap in order to relieve system pressure. Remove the pressure cap.

        Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information on containing fluid spillage.

      1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system to a level that is below the hose that is being replaced.

        Note: Dispose of the drained fluids according to local regulations.

      1. Loosen the hose clamps and disconnect the damaged hose.

      1. Replace the damaged hose with a new hose.

      1. Replace the hose clamps and tighten the hose clamps.

      1. Open the air bleed valve that is located on the coolant line at the top of the engine.

      1. Add the appropriate coolant solution to the cooling system. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Level - Check" .

      1. Close the air bleed valve.

    1. Close the engine hood and latch the engine hood.
