NOTICE |
---|
Excessive additive (greater than the recommended 6% initial fill) together with concentrations of antifreeze greater than 60% cause deposits to form and can result in radiator tube blockage and overheating. |
Note: This machine was filled at the factory with Caterpillar Extended Life Coolant. The following information pertains to machines which have been subsequently filled with Caterpillar Diesel Engine Antifreeze/Coolant (DEAC) or a commercial equivalent.
Check the concentration of the coolant. Use 8T-5296 Coolant Conditioner Test Kit to check the concentration.
If necessary, add Caterpillar Supplemental Coolant Additive (SCA) .
Liquid Supplemental Coolant Additive
- Unlatch the engine hood and raise the engine hood.

- It may be necessary to drain some coolant from the radiator so that Caterpillar Supplemental Coolant Additive can be added to the cooling system.
Note: Dispose of drained fluids according to local regulations.
Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information on containing fluid spillage.
- Open the air bleed valve that is located on the coolant line on the top of the engine.

- Add the Supplemental Coolant Additive to the cooling system. Refer to the following topics for the proper amount of Caterpillar Supplemental Coolant Additive :
- Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Supplemental Coolant Additive (SCA)"
- Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities"
- Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Supplemental Coolant Additive (SCA)"
- Close the air bleed valve.
- Inspect the gasket of the cooling system pressure cap. If the gasket is damaged, replace the pressure cap.
- Install the cooling system pressure cap.
- Close the engine hood and latch the engine hood.
