Fuel Filter Base - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: The fuel filter base can be removed without removing the fuel filter from the fuel filter base. If the fuel filter will not be removed from the fuel filter base, skip step 1.

  1. Remove fuel filter (3) from the fuel filter base (1). Use the following sequence:

    1. Turn locking collar (2) in the counterclockwise direction and hold fuel filter (3) in position.

    1. Pull fuel filter (3) from fuel filter base (1). Remove locking collar (2) .

    1. Inspect the O-ring seal (4) on the fuel filter base (1). If the O-ring seal is worn or damaged, replace the O-ring seal.

  1. Remove fuel lines (6) from the fuel filter base (1) .

  1. Remove two bolts (5) in order to remove the fuel filter base.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install fuel filter base (1) on the engine.

  1. Install two bolts (5) and tighten to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  1. Install fuel lines (6) to the fuel filter base.

    Note: If the fuel filter was not removed from the fuel filter base, then skip step 5.

  1. Install fuel filter (3) on the fuel filter base (1) .

  1. Twist locking collar (2) clockwise in order to attach the fuel filter to the fuel filter base.
