Positioning Pin Bearing |
(1) Bore in connecting rod for piston pin bearing ... 55.436 ± 0.013 mm (2.1825 ± 0.0005 inch)
Tight fit between connecting rod eye and piston pin bearing ... 0.05 ± 0.10 mm (0.002 ± 0.004 inch)
Note: The connecting rod must be heated for the installation of the piston pin bearing. Do not use a torch.
Heat the connecting rod to the following temperature. ... 177 to 260 °C (350 to 500 °F)
Position of pin bearing
The bearing junction and locating hole are 180 degrees from each other. The bearing junction and locating hole must be assembled within either area "A". The bearing junction and locating hole must be assembled 90 ± 10 degrees from the centerline through the connecting rod bores.
Angle "B" is the following value. ... 10 degrees
For procedures and tools that are needed for removal and installation of pin bearings, see Special Instruction SMHS7295.
(2) Bore in connecting rod for bearing ... 103.500 ± 0.013 mm (4.0748 ± 0.0005 inch)
(3) Distance between the center of the bearings ... 261.62 ± 0.05 mm (10.300 ± 0.002 inch)
(4) Bore in bearing for new piston pin ... 50.830 ± 0.008 mm (2.0012 ± 0.0003 inch)
Diameter of new piston pin ... 50.795 ± 0.005 mm (1.9998 ± 0.0002 inch)
Maximum permissible clearance between bearing and worn piston pin ... 0.08 mm (0.003 inch)
(5) Bore in bearing for crankshaft ... 97.119 to 97.175 mm (3.8236 to 3.8258 inch)
Clearance between bearing and new crankshaft ... 0.071 to 0.168 mm (0.0028 to 0.0066 inch)
Maximum permissible clearance between bearing and worn crankshaft ... 0.25 mm (0.010 inch)
Note: Bearings are available in 0.64 mm (0.025 inch) and 1.27 mm (0.0500 inch) smaller than original size.

Marks For Tightening Connecting Rod Bolts |
(6) The tightening procedure for the connecting rod bolts is listed below:
- Lubricate bolt threads and contact surfaces with 2P-2506 Thread Lubricant before assembly.
- Tighten both nuts.
Torque for nuts ... 80 ± 8 N·m (60 ± 6 lb ft)
- Put a mark on each nut and end of bolt.
- Tighten each nut from the mark.
Tighten nuts by the following amount. ... 120 ± 5 degrees
Note: The connecting rod must be installed so the chamfer that is on the edge of bore (5) is near the corner on the crankshaft. The side that is opposite the chamfered edge must be against the other connecting rod on the same crankshaft pin.
Side clearance between two connecting rods on the same new crankshaft pin ... 0.28 to 0.84 mm (0.011 to 0.033 inch)
For procedures that are needed to recondition connecting rods, see Special Instruction GMG02394 and Special Instruction SMHS7366.
