PROBLEM
The six carrier rollers may have been wrongly assembled on certain 365B L, 365B L SERIES II, 385B, 385B L, and 5090B Excavators. The carrier rollers on the machines must be check to ensure the 3 carrier rollers on each track are well aligned.AFFECTED PRODUCT

Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The carrier rollers need to be inspected for misalignment. If any carrier roller is misaligned, the carrier roller needs to be adjusted. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated March 16, 2005 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Rework Procedure

- Make a visual inspection of the six carrier rollers (ref 242-4066).
- If any of the 6 carrier rollers is suffering from leaks or excessive wear, the carrier roller should be replaced. Refer to Disassembly & Assembly Manual RENR1970-05, "Track Carrier Roller ? Remove" and "Track Carrier Roller ? Install".
- If any of the 6 carrier rollers are misaligned, loosen the carrier roller. Refer to Disassembly & Assembly Manual RENR1970, "Track Carrier Roller ? Remove" section.
- Set the lateral clearance between the carrier roller and the bracket to 21 +/- 1 mm as shown on Illustration 2.
- Tighten the bolt fixing the carrier roller (ref 7X-2584 M30) to 1000 +/- 125 Nm.
- When all six of the carrier rollers are installed according to the location showed on picture 2, make a visual inspection to ensure the carrier rollers are well aligned with the sprocket and the idler.
