The relief valve is designed to relieve pressure in the hydraulic system of the rotator motors. The relief valve is pilot-operated. The relief valve senses pressure on each side of the rotator motor.
The pressure setting of the relief valve is 17000 kPa (2465 psi). The relief valve dumps system pressure to the opposite side of the rotator motor. When the Pulverizer is rotating to the right, the relief valve dumps to the left side of the motor. This design prevents total hydraulic pressure loss during rotation. This is a safety measure that improves efficiency.
