(1) Coupling

(2) Drive slot angle

Position the engine flywheel at the Top Center Position of the compression stroke for the No. 1 cylinder. Install coupling (1) so that the drive slots in the coupling are at the following angle. ... 34 ± 4 degrees from vertical

(3) Gear assembly

Diameter of the shaft ... 22.100 ± 0.013 mm (.8701 ± .0005 inch)
Bore in the bushing ... 22.225 to 22.250 mm (.8750 to .8760 inch)

(4) Plates and the bolt

(5) Gear

(6) Camshaft drive gear

Use the following procedure in order to install the camshaft drive gear:

  1. Place the engine flywheel in the Top Center Position of the compression stroke for the No. 1 cylinder. Install the crankshaft timing pin.

    NOTICE

If the crankshaft timing pin location is missed, do not turn the flywheel in the opposite direction to install the crankshaft timing pin. If the crankshaft timing pin location is missed, rotate the crankshaft a minimum of 20 degrees in the direction opposite normal engine rotation and repeat Step 1.

  1. Install the camshaft timing pin.

  1. Put camshaft drive gear (6) in position on the camshaft. Install plates and bolt (4) hand tight.

Note: Make sure that the gear and the tapers of the shaft are clean, dry and free of dirt, rust and lubricants.

  1. Remove the camshaft timing pin.

  1. Use a torque multiplier in order to tighten the bolt for the camshaft drive gear.

    Tighten the bolt to the following torque. ... 2000 ± 275 N·m (1480 ± 200 lb ft)

  1. Strike the plates that hold the camshaft drive gear with a hammer and repeat Step 5.

  1. Repeat Step 6, until there is no change in the bolt torque.

  1. Verify the relation from the crankshaft to the camshaft by installing the camshaft timing pin. If the crankshaft and the camshaft timing pins cannot be installed, loosen bolt (4) and camshaft drive gear (6). Repeat the installation procedure for the camshaft drive gear.
