Information Display with the Cat Display Start-Up Page |
The Cat® Display Information Screen appears when at startup. This screen will show for 3 seconds before the Performance Page appears on the display.
Note: If the Cat Object Detection System is installed, the Cat Detect Disclaimer Screen will appear after the Information Screen and before the Performance Page.
Note: If the Rear View Camera is installed, the Back-Up Camera screen will appear after the Cat Detect Disclaimer Screen (if installed) and before the Performance Page.
When an operator keys on the engine to start the machine up, the Information Display will power on. The Information Display will begin to show a series of pages. These pages are as follows:
- Cat Display Start-Up Page
- Operator ID (Identification) Machine Code Keypad
- Performance Page (Home page)
The Operator ID (Identification) Machine Code Keypad page will not appear if any of the following actions occur:
- The transmission is not in Neutral gear.
- The parking brake is not engaged.
- The engine speed is over 400 RPM.
Note: The Operator ID (Identification) Machine Code Keypad will only appear if no Operator ID passcode has been previously entered. The machine will not key on unless an Operator ID passcode has been previously entered.
For more information on the Operator ID (Identification), refer to the following section in this manual: Operator ID (Identification)
Cat Information Display Start-Up Page
To view the Cat Information Display Start-Up Page refer to illustration 1. The Cat Information Display Start-Up Page appears when the machine is being keyed on and the engine is at startup. A buzzer test will sound. This page with the Cat logo will show for 10 seconds before the next page appears on the Information Display.
Note: After the Cat Information Display Start-Up Page is no longer visible, the page will not be visible until the next key cycle. If the Rear View Camera is installed, the Back-Up Camera screen will appear after the Cat Detect Disclaimer Screen (if installed) and before the Performance Page.

The machine has a feature called the Machine Security System (MSS). When installed, MSS protects the machine from unauthorized operation. If the security has been installed, but has been locked, the operator must enter a Machine Code to unlock the security. If a pass code has not been entered into the Information Display, the Machine Code numerical keypad will appear. The Information Display will prompt the operator to enter their specific operator pass code.
Enter the machine code number using the following steps:
- Enter the Machine Code number into the numerical keypad.
- Correct a mistyped number by pressing the Keypad BACK button (2)
- Press the OK button (1) to enter the number.

The Cat® Information Display is a touch-screen display. By pressing a particular raised or Hotkey button on the Information Display screen, the operator can navigate through specific menus.
The Cat Detect Object Detection system provides operators with an enhanced awareness of their surroundings. The system provides both visible and audible alerts when the system is active and an object is detected in the coverage area.
The Cat Object Detection System for a medium wheel loader consists of one or two object detention sensors, a camera and the Display ECM. The object detection sensors are placed in the rear of the machine to monitor designated areas of limited visibility. The sensors detect objects to the rear of the machine when the machine is either in neutral or reverse. The Information Display provides all the necessary annunciation to the operator.
To provide a means of indicating the proximity of a detection, the Information Display provides a five-zone indication bar. When the system is active, the indication bar covers the four uppermost left side hotkey buttons on the Information Display. If an object is in the critical zone, the display will provide both an audible warning and a visual warning.
Note: The Cat Object Detection System must be installed on the machine.
Note: The machines Rear Camera does not have to be active.

The Cat Detect Proximity Bar (6) covers the four uppermost Hotkey buttons (4).
During the power-up process, the Information Display will perform a self-test. During the self-test, the Information Display will ensure that all components are communicating. An alarm on the Information Display will sound momentarily. When the self-test is completed, the following will occur:
- The System Status Indicator/Button will turn green.
- The Rear View Camera will be active.
- The Proximity Bar will be active.
Cat Detect Left Side Proximity Bar
The Cat Detect Left Side Proximity Bar (6) provides five states of warning:
- The Proximity Bar shows an escalation of one, two, and three YELLOW segments.
- The Proximity Bar shows an escalation of four and five RED segments. At five RED segments, an audible alert will occur.
Note: The number of bars indicates the nearness or the proximity of the object.

The illustration11 shows an example of the bar is with two YELLOW segments.
Cat Detect – Status Indicator/Button
The Cat Detect Status Indicator/Button (5) appears on the left side of the Display. Refer to Illustration 11. Depending on the level of activity and the detection state, the indication button will appear as green, yellow, or red.
When Cat Detect detects a problem, the faulted state is red, and the alarm activates for 2 seconds. Once the fault condition is removed, the system is active, as indicated by a green status icon.
Active Mode - Cat Detect is ON, is active, and is accurately monitoring the RADAR detection. The machine is in either Reverse gear or in Neutral gear. The parking brake is OFF. |
Standby Mode - Cat Detect is ON and is in standby mode. The system is not reporting any RADAR detections. The machine is in either Forward gear or in Neutral gear. The parking brake is ON. |
System Fault Mode - Cat Detect is ON. The RADAR detection has located an object. The Active Status Indicator will flash if all five segments on the Proximity Bar are lit. If fewer than five segments are lit, the Active Status Indicator will not flash. |
Cat Detect has an Alarm Snooze feature. When the Audible Alert sounds, the Active Status Indicator shows a green background and becomes an active button.
Active Mode when the Audible Alert Alarm sounds - The Active Status Indicator now becomes an active, raised Hotkey button. Cat Detect is ON and is active. The machine is in Reverse gear. The Proximity Bar (6) will show three or more lighted segments. |
Pressing the Active Status Indicator/Button silences the Audible Alert Alarm. Cat Detect is now in the Active/Silenced Mode.
Active/Silenced Mode - Cat Detect is ON. The RADAR detection is active. The alarm is silenced or muted. The machine is in Reverse gear. The Audible Alert Alarm will reactivate only when the operator changes the gear from Reverse to either Neutral gear or Forward gear. |

(9) Alert Reminder Symbol |
Illustration 15depicts the Warning Pop-Up Fault Message Banner (8) containing a Yellow Level 3 Fault Code Message. Illustration 15 also depicts the Alert Reminder Symbol and the Warning Pop-Up Fault Message Banner (8) is reduced and in the snooze mode. The Lower Information Display Banner also provides a location for displaying warning messages containing Diagnostic Event Fault Codes.
Both the Diagnostics list page and its accompanying Details page can be accessed from pressing the Warning Pop-Up Fault Message Banner (8).
If a machine Diagnostic Event occurs, a warning alert or a machine service fault message will appear in the Warning Pop-Up Message Banner.
Pressing the Warning Pop-Up Fault Message Banner will put the Diagnostic Event into the snooze mode (9). The snooze mode is shown when the Warning Pop-Up Fault Message Banner has been reduced in size. The snooze mode prevents a Level 1 (Gray) Message banner or a Level 2 (Yellow) Message banner from constantly reappearing on the Display.
Note: The Level 3 Warning (Red banner) message will remain active and cannot be placed in the snooze mode or be reduced to an Alert Reminder Symbol. This message is considered urgent. The operator is advised to take immediate action.
If a Diagnostic Event is active and is in the snooze mode, an Alert Reminder Symbol (10) will appear in the bottom right corner of the Warning Pop-Up Message Banner. Pressing this icon will navigate the operator to the Diagnostics list page.
