(1) Thickness for new thrust plate ... 15.50 ± 0.05 mm (.610 ± .002 inch)

Width of groove for thrust plate ... 5.80 ± 0.13 mm (.228 ± .005 inch)

(2) Diameter of camshaft journal ... 185.000 ± 0.03 mm (7.2834 ± 0.0012 inch)

NOTICE

Correct camshaft segment relationship (timing) must be observed at assembly. If the camshaft segments are out of time, serious engine damage will occur.

Location of dowels on camshaft journals "P", "Q" and "R"

Note: The position of the single dowel in relation to the variable dowel determines the letter designation of the camshaft journals. The single dowel is next to the groove for locating. The variable dowel is on the end opposite the groove for locating.

(3) Groove for locating

(4) Location of the alignment dowel in the face of the camshaft journal

Distance from the top of the dowel to the camshaft bearing journal ... 7.0 ± 0.5 mm (.28 ± .02 inch)

(5) Location of the variable dowel in the face of the camshaft journal

Distance from the top of the dowel to the camshaft bearing journal ... 7.0 ± 0.5 mm (.28 ± .02 inch)

(6) Camshaft bearing journal

Install the camshaft bearing journals with the grooved end toward the front of the engine.

(7) Camshaft segments

Install the camshaft segments with the grooved flange toward the rear of the engine.

(8) Tighten the bolts for the camshaft segment to the following torque. ... 270 ± 40 N·m (200 ± 30 lb ft)

(9) The camshaft must be assembled in an assembly fixture or the camshaft must be assembled in the cylinder block.

Apply a force at the rear end of the camshaft (9) . The rolling torque must be a maximum of the following value. ... 28 N·m (21 lb ft)

(10) Specified camshaft lobe lift

To find the specified camshaft lobe lift, use the procedure that follows:

  1. Measure the total height of the camshaft (11) .

  1. Measure base circle (12) .

  1. Subtract base circle (12) from the total height of camshaft (11) . The difference is the specified camshaft lobe lift (10) .

  1. Specified camshaft lobe lift (10) is the following value:

    Exhaust lobe ... 19.500 mm (.7677 inch)

    Inlet lobe ... 19.500 mm (.7677 inch)

    Injector lobe ... 21.472 mm (.8454 inch)
