Description Of Change: The new dowel provides more protection against the risk of debris entering the oil system when a cylinder head is removed.
Adaptable To: A new 493-5366 Dowel As replaces the old 371-6455 Dowel is now used on the C175 cylinder block to cylinder head joint. The new dowel is adaptable back to first production on the serial numbers listed above.
This change is effective for the serial numbers listed in Table 1

Note: Only recommended to change or remove oil dowels at engine PCR or anytime where the block will be thoroughly cleaned.
Note: Field installation is not recommended.
Installation Procedure
- Insert to the top of alignment shoulder.
- Use plastic dead blow hammer to tap in.
- Tap in until the bottom of the cap is flush with the block. Do not over drive and damage dowel or block.
- If the dowel cap is removed for any reason, torque the cap to
2 ± 1 N·m (17 ± 9 lb in) .

Use caps or plugs to prevent dirt or containments to get into oil system before installing new oil feed dowels. |

Removal Procedure
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, clean the exterior of the component thoroughly. Cleaning the exterior will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
- Clean and vacuum thoroughly around the dowel.
