- Use a suitable lifting device in order to install knuckle (17). The weight of knuckle (17) is approximately
50 kg (110 lb) .Show/hide tableIllustration 2 g01023130 - Do not install shims (14) at this time. Install pin assembly (13). Install bolts (12). Do not tighten bolts (12) at this time.
- Apply Tooling (D) to the surface of pin assembly (15). Install pin assembly (15) and bolts (16). Tighten bolts (16) to a torque of

1000 N·m (738 lb ft) . Install locking plate (4) and bolts (5). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of70 N·m (52 lb ft) .Note: If the tab on locking plate (4) does not line up with the slot in spanner nut (3), tighten spanner nut (3) until the slot and the tab are aligned.

This will make the installation of retaining ring (8) easier. Install washer (6) and thrust washer (7). Use Tooling (D) and install retaining ring (8).

Illustration 8 g01029956 - Insert a suitable pry bar and move the knuckle up and down while you tighten bolts (12). Tighten bolts (12) until there is no end play. Use a suitable feeler gauge and measure the clearance between pin assembly (13) and the knuckle. Measure the clearance at several points and average the measurement. Use shims (14) that equal the measurement.
- Remove pin assembly (13). Apply Tooling (D) to the surface of pin assembly (13). Install pin assembly (13), the correct shims (14), and bolts (12). Tighten bolts (12) to a torque of
300 N·m (221 lb ft) .Show/hide tableIllustration 9 g01032913 - Install tie rod end (1) into the axle housing. Install nut (2). Tighten nut (2) to a torque of
220 N·m (162 lb ft) .
