SUBJECT: Circuit Breaker Interrupting Rating on Griffin and Lafayette-Packaged Engine Generator Sets
PROBLEM:
The interrupting current rating for new, R-Series, UL-IEC/CSA circuit breakers is 35,000 Amps at 480 Volts, 60 Hertz (as noted in publication LEHE4891, which was referenced in the October 2004 Product News). The predecessor CM-Series circuit breakers had an interrupting current rating of 85,000 Amps at 480 Volts, 60 Hertz.
SOLUTION:
Determining the necessary interrupting current rating for a specific installation requires a fault current analysis. Assure all project documentation and the selected circuit breakers reflect the proper interrupting current rating. If installations require a new R-Series circuit breaker with an interrupting current rating greater than 35,000 Amps, contact the Application Support Center for assistance.
