SUBJECT: G3600 ICSM Software Update for Exhaust Port Temperature Diagnostics

PROBLEM:

When troubleshooting a G3608 exhaust port temperature failure with the previous 255-5059 ICSM software, the MIDS and ET would display contrasting information. The MIDS displayed "Reporting Description Not Available" because the diagnostic code sent from the ICSM was not transmitting the correct event code of 1521-1538, which is supported in MIDS, 214-3462. However, ET would report a failed thermal couple diagnostic for the correct cylinder. This problem only applied to 8 cylinder engines. The 6, 12, and 16 cylinder engines displayed the correct information for these codes in MIDS and ET.

SOLUTION:

New ICSM 266-3049 software has been released with an improved G3608 Diagnostic Table Configuration that eliminates the problems when troubleshooting possible exhaust port temperature failures. With the new ICSM software both MIDS and ET display information correctly for event codes 1531-1538.

It is recommended that the update be completed on all G3600 ADEM III engines as the last step of a scheduled service maintenance operation. If there is a problem flashing the ICSM, the control should be powered down for 30 minutes before attempting to re-flash. Installing the new software on G3606, G3608, G3612, or G3616 engines is not considered a warranty repair. When reporting the update do not use the software part number as cause of failure; instead, use substitute part "SP0775" and SMCS group number "7620".
