SUBJECT: Fault Code 94-03 Fuel Pressure Voltage High Present After Updating the C7 and C9 Engine Control Module (ECM) With October 2004 or Later Flash Files
PROBLEM:
The default setting for the fuel pressure sensor in the ECM configuration is set to "INSTALLED". A 94-03 Fuel Pressure Voltage High indicates an excessive fuel pressure sensor output voltage. This is most likely caused by a loss of sensor reference ground, open signal wire, or a signal wire short to a voltage source. This fault is logged for 8 seconds and the Check Engine Light becomes active after 4 hours of operation.
All of the following conditions are required to be logged as a fault.
- +5 Sensor Supply Fault codes are not active.
- No 168-01 (low battery voltage to ECM) codes are active at the same time.
- The fuel pressure sensor output voltage signal is greater than 4.95 V for 8 seconds.
SOLUTION:
Determine whether the engine is equipped with a fuel pressure sensor. The fuel pressure sensor (If Equipped) is located at or near the rear of the cylinder head.
If the fuel pressure sensor is present use the appropriate troubleshooting procedure to determine the root cause.
If a fuel pressure sensor is not present, configure the fuel pressure sensor in the ECM to "NOT INSTALLED". You must use Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) 2004B or greater to configure this parameter.
