SUBJECT: 3406 and 3456 Voltage Adjust Potentiometer May Be Incorrect

PROBLEM:

The range over which the generator output voltage can be adjusted is narrow and may be unacceptable to the operator.

SOLUTION:

    1. Inspect the Voltage Adjust potentiometer (VAR) in order to determine the resistance rating. The correct rating is 1K Ohm, as indicated in Illustration 1.
    2. If the installed potentiometer?s resistance rating is not 1K Ohm, remove the installed potentiometer and replace it with a new potentiometer (122-9458 Potentiometer).
    3. Use a 100-Watt soldering iron and rosin core solder to connect the wires to the 122-9458 Potentiometer.
    4. Check the generator set for proper operation.
