SUBJECT: 3406E On-highway Truck Engines are experiencing crankshaft problems.

PROBLEM: Some of the engines in the above serial number range have experienced crankshaft problems in high hour operations. The symptoms of this problem are noise, vibration, and hard to start or difficult gear engagement.

SOLUTION: When discussing overhaul options with the customer, consider replacing the crankshaft with a remanufactured 0R-3973 crankshaft. Based on their operation, a customer may choose to replace their crankshaft.
