SUBJECT: INSTALLATION OF THE SITEVISION® GPS CABLE ENCODER BRACKET
ON HYDRAULIC EXCAVATORS

PROBLEM:

The SiteVision® GPS system provides accurate horizontal and vertical bucket guidance information. The main components installed for the system are the antennas, pitch sensors, and cable encoders. The brackets for installation of the cable encoders are welded to the front structure of the machine. The correct installation and location of the brackets will not affect the integrity of the front structure.

SOLUTION:

The cable encoders are usually located between the hydraulic cylinder mounting ears on the boom and on the stick. Use the information that follows in order to attach the brackets for the cable encoder while maintaining the integrity of the front structure. The illustrations show the typical locations of the components.

  1. Weld only along the length of the stick or boom.
  2. Weld a minimum of 50mm (2.0 inch) away from existing welds.
  3. Weld lengthwise along the inside of the bracket.
